A few from just over a year ago..

These were taken at Tynemouth market, and it's interesting to note my own improvements.  Much more thought put into framing and depth of field these days.

So this is my final image for my weightless project.  This particular module was fairly challenging, but I am happy with he eventual outcome.

Robert Mapplethorpe 'The Magic In The Muse'

Friday night I was pleased to attend the preview of the Robert Mapplethorpe exhibition 'Magic In The Muse' at Bowes museum.  As expected, a glorious show of portraiture and a lot of food for thought.  Mapplethorpe is an artist I have long admired, and his use of tone, expression and framing is both unique to his work and full of impact.  I would recommend this exhibition to anyone.

Also worth seeing as he magnificence of the Bowes itself. Particularly the world famous 'silver swan'..

A little lighting demo...

So my next project for my degree is 'weightless'.  I have many ideas for this concept, though the practicalities must be considered!

In order to prepare for this, a lighting demo took place this week to give a little inspiration using a trampoline and lighting set up.  It seems the difficult task may be managing to get the right expression on the model given the situation...

35mm, The joy of.

I am recently shooting a lot more with vintage cameras in my spare time.  It makes a welcome break from digital, as well as creating varied results.  Anyway, here's one from my dabbles in lomography, taken with a cosmic symbol.

Incident Room

Today was spent shooting for my project Incident Room. This was left fairly open and I made use of local public house the Town Wall, being given reign of the downstairs bar.  Very pleased with the results, and very thankful to my cast for doing me so proud!  This is one image from the shoot, virtually unedited, so many to follow!

FDA Photography Year Two

So I am now a half term into my degree course.  This entails more challenging projects as well as work placement.  After a rocky start to the year I now feel well and truly able to settle into my work and look to the future with a little more decisiveness.

My primary aim this year is to address my own personal problems and ensure they do not overlap into my work, as well as to do everything to the best of my ability.  It is my aim to find a placement within a press or gallery setting - my course has enabled me to realise the areas of the industry I am interested in ( social and political commentary ) and those I am not ( fashion, wedding, commercial photography ).  I hope this will enable me to follow my own interests within both my course and personal work.

Next module - Incident Room.  Working as a group presents its own challenges and benefits so it will be interesting to see how this progresses.

Cresswell Pele Tower

Sunday was spent exploring Cresswell Tower, which is rarely opens to the public and held an open day.  Well worth the trip, and stunning views.

It must be said however the stairs are quite terrifying!

Tyne Theatre

Throughout summer, I am six other photographers spent some hours documenting the interior and exterior of the Tyne Theatre in Newcastle, which ended in an exhibition in September prior to the first performance of 'Pirates of Penzance'.  Beautiful building and wonderful project to work on... Here is a selection of my work from this.

The original fittings were all intact and made for some lovely photo opportunities..

Morpeth Photographic Exhibition

I am delighted to be taking part in this next month at Morpeth Town Hall, exhibiting two photographs

During summer I had the pleasure of doing stills for local film maker Warren Speed on his latest production.  As well as working with a great cast, including Pete Bennett of big brother,  it enabled me to gain a lot of new skills and work on something a little different.  As the film is still in post production I can only provide a few stills from this yet!

Conjoined

My latest module consisted of the theme 'Conjoined' or putting together the impossible.  My final image is shown below..

The most challenging part of this was perhaps coming up with a concept more than anything!

Church Photography

Recently I have been indulging in a little of my primary photographic passion, that of local architecture.  Several examples from the last two weeks are above, St Georges in Morpeth and below Mitford.  I feel blessed to live in such a beautiful county at times, and the spring weather merely enhances its glory.

Adventures with Ale...

The symbol of Newcastle Brown Ale has been synonymous with the North East since it was first brewed.  My brief set ono my course was to create an advertising campaign for said product.  This has entailed my setting up to various locations with said bottle in attempt to see what works best...

A day in the sun, and an advertising shoot.

So, for my final degree project I have decided to concentrate on creating a series of look book style images in the style of Cath Kidston.  Today was my first shoot for said project, and involved my bike as a prop.  Below is an image from the shoot I am rather proud of!

More from the Northumbrian Coastline

My love of this county is probably now apparent.  I thought I would group a few of the images together in one post rather than spread them out.

Many images have also been taken on 35mm film and thus are yet to be processed.  I look forward to the results when I get round to processing!

Blyth Harbour

Lovely to go for a walk along the coastline as spring finally sets in.  Several images from my wanderings around Blyth harbour with a friend.

OPFOR Living History shoot

Sunday was spent assisting on a shoot for Blyth Battery and OPFOR living history group, as well as getting some images of my own from said shoot.  Good fun was had and nice images were captured.  All in all a success.

More images to follow...

The tide is high...

Several shots from saturdays excursion to the Northumbrian coast.  Amble harbour was rather dramatic as a result of high tides.

After taking this shot, I ended up being caught out by the waves and rather wet.  The results however were worth it.

The image above was a very luckily timed shot of my new friend in the harbour!   Beautiful creature and seemingly very curious.
